The call for Advocacy in maternal and child health has become a pressing issue for Nigerian researchers as it is unlikely for Nigeria to meet the MDG target of reducing the numbers of maternal deaths by 75% by the year 2015. This was the idea of researchers and participants at an advocacy training workshop organized for non-governmental organizations and Safe Motherhood Project leaders by the Women’s Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC) in Benin City on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.
The workshop was attended by 23 participants who include researchers, advocates, representatives of NGOs and safe motherhood project leaders in 4 states (Borno, Enugu, Lagos, Plateau) of Nigerian who called on governments, developmental partners and the private sector to draw attention to important issues that will improve the health and social well-being of Nigerian women.
