Policy Brief: Revamping maternal health care and reducing high rate of maternal deaths in Borno State, Nigeria.

Located in the North-east corner of the country, Borno state has some of the most bbchallenging maternal and child health needs in Nigeria. The state has a maternal mortality rate that is at least three times the national average, due largely to inadequate maternal and child health services and the poor utilization of evidence-based maternity care by pregnant women. With less than five years to the target for achieving the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), it is critical and highly urgent that the Borno state government takes drastic measures to achieve the needed reduction in maternal mortality.
